Z.o.o. guitar duo was described in Classical Guitar magazine as “premiere league quality…effortless musicianship and wonderful technique”. Combining the virtuoso talents of Peter Constant (Australian) and Marion Schaap (Dutch), both Masters graduates of Yale University, the duo has built an international reputation over the past 30 years. Peter and Marion ran the guitar faculties of Melbourne University and the Victorian College of the Arts from 1992-1998, before moving to Holland where they are currently based.
Appearances have included the Grachtenfestival and the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Jazz- und Klassiktage Tübingen, Staunton Music Festival (Virginia), International Guitar Festival of Great Britain, Darwin International Guitar Festival, Avantgarde Cultural Foundation in Cyprus, and countless other podia and festivals. They have collaborated with the Groningen Guitar Duo, pianist Donna Coleman, cellist Olga Dowbusch-Lubotsky, among others. Their playing has inspired numerous composers to write music for guitar duo. Peter and Marion have released about 15 CDs, including the complete 2-voice Inventions of J.S. Bach in a unique rendition on requinto and baritone guitars, and Sofia Gubaidulina’s monumental ‘Repentance’ recorded in the presence of the composer.
Z.o.o. guitar duo play new-generation guitars by luthiers Paul Sheridan and Jeroen Hilhorst, and possess a complete collection of ‘guitar family’ instruments made by Graham Caldersmith, ranging from octave to bass guitars which provides a rich and varied sound palette.
Peter and Marion are widely known as inspiring educators and ambassadors for the classical guitar, and both enthusiastically pass on their knowledge and experience to the next generation at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam respectively. They are currently the artistic directors of Stichting Gitaarorkest Nederland, and have led both the Netherlands and European Youth Guitar Orchestras with soloists such as guitar ‘legend’ Pepe Romero. They have appeared as soloists with JGO Baden-Württenberg, Zürich Guitar Ensemble and various other guitar ensembles. Peter en Marion led an ensemble of 1,000 guitarists in the Olympic Stadium, Berlin, during the World Culture Festival 2011. Their annual ‘gitaarspektakel’ concert in hometown Almere is an established highlight on the Dutch guitar calendar.
