Josep-Oriol Miró was born in Tarragona (Spain). He received his diploma in violoncello at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya with Damián Martínez, Cuarteto Casals and Kennedy Moretti (chamber music).

Afterwards he studied at the University of Music and Drama Hannover with Leonid Gorokhov, the Szymanowski Quartet and at the Music Academy Basel with Rainer Schimdt (Hagen Quartet). He also attended master classes with Anner Bylsma, Ferenc Rados, Eberhard Feltz, Rafael Rosenfeld, Wen-Sinn Yang, Quatuor Ysaÿe, Oliver Willer (Kuss Quartet), Daniel Sepec (Arcanto Quartet).As a soloist and member of various chamber music groups and orchestras he has performed in Spain, Italy, France, Palestine, Germany, Poland and Switzerland. His interests range from baroque to new music, chamber music, orchestra, improvisation and jazz.

He participated in numerous world premieres and recordings contemporary works as interpreter and arranger. Today he is the principal cello of the Neues Orchester Basel and the Camerata Da Vinci.
