Guitarist Hande Cangökçe, who teaches at Nişantaşı University, Faculty of Art and Design, Department of Music, earned her Bachelor’s, Master’s and Art Proficiency degrees under Bekir Küçükay at Istanbul University State Conservatory where she received the title of Associate Professor in 2017. She studied in the guitar program for soloists at the Strasbourg Académie Supérieure de Musique Conservatory in France, where she studied classical guitar with Susana Prieto and Baroque music, Theorbo and continuo with Yasunori Imamura. During her studies, she had the opportunity to work with world-renowned educators and virtuosos such as Zoran Dugic, Lily Afshar, Marco Socias, Liviu Georgescu, Bosko Radojkovic, Hopkinson Smith, Carlo Marchione, Tilmann Hoppstock, Lorenzo Micheli, and received invitations from many conservatories in Europe.
Since 2000, Cangökçe has taken the stage as a soloist at many national and international festivals, performed concertos, and premiered many works. She has been a guest of many TV and Radio programs for live performances, recordings, and interviews. She has appeared in the print media, especially in leading classical music magazines as well as in classical music albums. In addition to performing, Cangökçe continues to give masterclasses, workshops and seminars at international festivals, both at home and abroad.
The first album she took part in; “5 Guitar Pieces” came out of Yıldız Technical University. She recorded the premiere performances of Turkish composers for her second album “Meeting with Guitar” (Bilkent-Çağsav). She recorded performance videos for Bekir Küçükay’s “Guitar Method for Children” DVD. (Flat Music). Third album; “Turkish Guitar Concertos” were also released in collaboration with Bilkent – Çağsav. In this project, the artist recorded the work under the direction of conductor Alessandro Cedrone.
After receiving theorbo training in France, Cangökçe started to create a new repertoire with Archlute as of 2018. Cangökçe, who was the first lutenist to bring and introduce this instrument to Turkey, continues her duo and repertoire works with contratenor Kaan Buldular. Duo Lamente gives concerts at international festivals and represents Turkey in this field with its repertoire ranging from the Baroque period to Ottoman Palace music. In addition to her duo project, she is a member of Istanbul Baroque Ensemble, founded and directed by Leyla Pınar. She continues to give concerts as a guest artist with Baroque music ensembles such as Baroque Diagonal, Camerata Baroque, Orchestra Sion and Istanbul State Opera and Ballet.
In addition to being a soloist, Cangökçe taught at Trakya University State Conservatory. Between 2018-2021, she served as the chair of the Music Department, at Nişantaşı University, Faculty of Art and Design. During her academic career, Cangökçe organized many student concerts, and the students she trained had the chance to continue their post-graduate education at home and abroad.
