Mexican composer Edgar Omar Rojas Ruiz (Tamaulipas, 1982) is an internationally awarded musician whose work bridges composition, research, and education. He holds a Master’s and PhD in Composition from the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts (Brno, Czech Republic), where he is currently a postdoctoral researcher and faculty member, teaching Latin American Music History and Children’s Music Composition.
His music has been performed internationally and recognized with awards such as the 1st Prize in the VII Composition Competition at the University of Zaragoza (2011), the 3rd Prize of the Carlo Sanvitale Composition Competition in Italy (2025), and selections for the prestigious Foro Internacional de Música Nueva Manuel Enríquez. He has received grants from FONCA’s Jóvenes Creadores (2018) and the Tamaulipas State Fund for the Arts (2008, 2024).
In addition to concert music, Edgar has worked across disciplines, collaborating with filmmakers, actors, and dance companies — including Monticello Park Productions (NY), legendary Mexican actor Héctor Bonilla, and the Czech-Austrian dance company ProArt. He also leads Los Mexicuates, a creative project focused on music for children.
He was a professor of composition and idiomatic guitar writing at the online Composition Workshop for Guitar by Núcleo Integral de Composición (CDMX), and an active member of the Artistic Research Group of the Society for Artistic Research (SAR).
